The Ministry of Municipality announced earlier this week that Rawdat Al Park has opened to the public after extensive renovations. The park, located near Doha’s centre, is one of the city’s largest and oldest green spaces, boasting 140,000 square metres.
According to The Ministry, the park has a long-standing place in the hearts of locals and expats alike.
It also contains 1,600 trees, some over a decade old, making it an integral part of Doha’s cultural and environmental history.
Family-friendly Features
The park’s facilities make it accessible to several age groups. It contains two play areas, one for children ages two to five and another for those between six and 11-years-old, with facilities for those with special needs. It also hosts metres-long running, walking, and cycling trails, plus the three fitness areas, leaving families looking for an active day out spoilt for choice.
Additionally, there are eight barbecue areas available, and soon, visitors will also be able to buy snacks from its kiosks. Some of the park’s other amenities include several seating areas, five water drinking facilities, men’s and women’s bathrooms and prayer rooms. Moreover, it hosts 372 parking spots, including spaces for people with disabilities.
International Ties
Rawdat Al Khail park was officially opened by the Minister of Municipality, His Excellency Dr Abdulla Bin Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Subaie, in the presence of His Excellency Mr Mike Purzycki, Mayor of Wilmington, Delaware, USA. During the event, Mr Purzycki helped plant a tree to symbolise a friendship between Doha and the City of Wilmington after a declaration of understanding between the two cities was signed. The Ministry of Municipality linked this gesture to Qatar’s commitment to local and international sustainability initiatives, including the ongoing “Plant a Million Trees” campaign.
