Qatar Museums (QM) announced that it is re-launching its monthly activity programme for 2023 starting this month. February’s schedule is set to be packed with free-to-attend events for all groups, from creative workshops and storytelling sessions to guided tours. Here is the list of all the activities QM has in store for kids, teens, and families.

1- Dadu on Tour

Dadu, Children’s Museum of Qatar, invites families to participate in their Dadu on Tour initiative, which aims to reach different communities and areas outside the capital. Its Play, Learn, Explore session will be held at Owaina Park, Al Wakrah, until 4 February. Individuals can register to attend on the QM website, while schools can book by emailing daduschools@qm.org.qa.

2- Storytelling Session

The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) library will host storytelling sessions for up to 25 students from kindergarten and grades one and two every Monday and Thursday. Children will have the chance to listen to different stories related to Qatar’s environment and participate in related fun and interactive activities at the end of their sessions. 3- Art Mill Museum 2030 Exhibition: Small Houses with Big Impact Art Workshop

Children ages 10 and up are invited to explore the architecture that reflects the history, culture, and living conditions of people of the past. This exhibition will particularly focus on the creation of mud houses, which signify this region’s heritage and historical depth, and illustrate how people maintained civilisation by developing this unique form of architecture. 4- Baghdad Family Day

5- I Really Want to Win Storytelling

6- Ottoman Design

Children and teenagers will be invited to learn about the different types of art found in MIA and try their hand at creating similar designs during this creative session. They will also try their hand at using basic geometry tools like compasses and rulers to create some of the structures commonly seen in Islamic art. 7- Experience Al Jazeera: Creating Logos from Calligraphy Workshop

This workshop invites teens to create logos generated from handwritten fonts and experiment with calligraphy. Participants will try different methods and styles of calligraphy and use them to create unique graphics. To register or learn more, email educationmia@qm.org.qa.

8- Posting a Story Through Social Media

This interactive workshop will arm participants with the skills and resources they need to cover stories from their community using social media. They will take on the roles of reporters and designers and learn how to do research, write news stories, design a layout, and structure stories by using striking headlines and creating captivating copy. 9- Use Your Imagination: Creative Writing Workshop

QM Gallery – Al Riwaq invites young writers to take part in a two-day art-inspired creative writing workshop. Day one will involve a walk-in gallery conversation, where they will discuss their perceptions of the collection. The group will then learn about the principles of writing a short story. On day two, participants will use different artistic techniques to create a main character inspired by the exhibition. To register or learn more, contact education@qm.org.qa.

10- Travel Memories Not to Be Forgotten

QM Gallery – Al Riwaq is opening its doors to youngsters to examine the Tales of a Connected World exhibition and create their own travel journal. Participants will be encouraged to go back in time and imagine themselves as travellers moving between old cities. They will also learn how people used to create visual records of particular places, like the images and paintings created on travels to vibrant trading hubs like Constantinople, Cairo, and Marrakech. 11- Be Part of Your Favourite Masterpiece

QM Gallery – Al Riwaq invites families with kids ages 12 and up to learn image-transferring techniques to enable them to incorporate personal images into masterpieces displayed at the exhibition. Participants will also learn how scenes of everyday life (real or imagined) were a particular source of interest to filmmakers and photographers.
