Qatar Reads’ ongoing One Book, One Doha campaign launched earlier this month and is expected to continue until 26th March 2022. Readers across Qatar of all ages and nationalities are invited to join in by grabbing a copy of this year’s pick, Kalila wa Dimna by Abdullah Ibn al-Muqaffa, and participating in events based on the book.

What is One Book, One Doha?

One Book, One Doha is a nationwide campaign by Qatar Reads that aims to bring people together by celebrating and rediscovering classic works of Arabic literature. The Ministry of Culture and Qatar National Library (QNL) have partnered with Qatar Reads for the campaign.

Who Can Join?

This year’s book, Kalila wa Dimna, contains a collection of 15 animal fables and has been translated into many languages. There are also child-friendly versions. So, according to Qatar Reads, people are free to read the version that suits them and focus on one fable or all 15. This means that people of all reading levels and nationalities can participate. Additionally, the campaign has several events tailored to different age groups.

How Can I Get the Book?

QNL members can borrow any age-appropriate version of Kalila wa Dimna from the library, which also offers e-book and audiobook varieties. To buy a copy, visit Jarir Bookstore, Virgin Megastore, Alef, and Samarkand. These shops are also partnering with Qatar Reads, so they have stocked up on the book. Plus, anyone registered for One Book, One Doha can buy Kalila wa Dimna from those shops at a discounted price.
