QATAR TOURISM (QT) announced that 2023 will be an “action-packed” year, as Qatar plans to host several sporting events, the Geneva International Motor Show, and Expo 2023 Doha. Upcoming sporting events include the AFC Asian Cup and the Formula 1 Grand Prix Qatar 2023. Expo 2023, which will run for six months, is also expected to attract 3 million visitors and be “the second-largest global event after FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022”, according to Mohammed Al-Khoury, the secretary general of International Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha.
SIDRA MEDICINE has launched a new male infertility clinic offering surgical and non-surgical treatments to treat male reproductive and sexual health disorders. According to Dr Johnny Awwad, Sidra Medicine’s division chief of reproductive medicine, over 50% of couples with infertility deal with male-related issues. Dr Awwad says that both husbands and wives can expect care at the clinic that is comprehensive and tailored to their unique needs and medical history.
THE BRITISH COUNCIL has launched IELTS Online, enabling users in Qatar to take the internationally-renowned English language test from home. The online test has the same structure, timing, and content as the one offered in test centres. It contains reading, listening, writing, and speaking portions, with the latter conducted through one-to-one live video calls with accredited IELTS examiners.
MOWASALAT (KARWA) announced that its electric buses (e-buses) travelled over 1.8 million kilometres during the first half of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, saving over 1.6 million kilograms of carbon emissions. According to Mowasalat, 900 e-buses were used for tournament bus services and public transport during this period, which spanned between 20 November and 6 December 2022.
