The kids are back in school, or soon to be, and that means it’s time for early bedtimes, packing lunches, homework—and dress up days. Whether it’s for Halloween or school spirit days, fancy dress is inevitable, but costumes can be tricky to find in Qatar and not everyone carries the creative genes to make an elaborate costume from scratch.

For those of you out there who aren’t so crafty or just don’t have much time, we’ve rounded up of some easy kids’ costume ideas that require minimal effort to put together. Most of the supplies you probably already have around the house or can be easily purchased at your nearest grocery store or hypermarket, but we’ve included a few tips on where to find any extra pieces.

Jellyfish from Hello, Wonderful

hellowonderful.co

We love how simple and customisable this costume is—any colour or repetitive pattern such as stripes or polka dots would work. You can even skip the eyes if you’re short on time. If you don’t have a hot glue gun, a stapler would also work to affix the ribbons.

Supplies:

  • Umbrella hat or regular umbrella
    • Tip: Check Daiso or Dollar Plus for kid-sized umbrellas
  • Ribbons in a variety of textures and widths (sequins and sparkles are a bonus!)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Black and white construction paper for the eyes

Jelly Bean Bag from The Sway

thesitsgirls.com

Your sweetie is sure to match this sweet treat costume, and best of all, it’s so simple to make. Skip the logo if you don’t have a printer or draw on a “Jelly Beans” label if you’re feeling creative.

Supplies:

  • Clear large trash bag
  • Balloons in various colours
  • Ribbon
  • Jelly Belly logo printed on a piece of paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue for the logo

Skeleton from And We Play

andweplay.com

You can’t go wrong with a classic skeleton costume and with only three items needed to put together, it’s a sure win if you’re scrambling the night before. White duct tape will stick the best, but in a pinch you could use masking tape if it’s not too humid outside.

Supplies:

  • Black long-sleeved shirt
  • Black pants/trousers
  • Scissors
  • White duct tape
    • Tip: Daiso or Jarir often carry white duct tape
