QM’s Free Family-friendly Events this January

Qatar Museums (QM) has shared its list of family-friendly events for January 2023. These events will take place in several venues and range from tours and storytime sessions to art workshops.

1- Storytime: My Camel Wants to Be a Unicorn

The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) is collaborating with Maktaba Children’s Library to organise a storytime session for children to read My Camel Wants to Be a Unicorn by Julia Inserro. According to NMoQ, this story teaches children about the importance of empathy. NMoQ holds storytime sessions on the first Saturday of each month.

When: Saturday, 7 January 2023, from 4 pm to 5 pm

2- Saturday Colouring in the Library

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) invites families to unwind in its library and colour Islamic art patterns on the first Saturday of each month. MIA will supply all the required materials for this activity.

Language: English and Arabic

3- Art Workshop: Making a Dress from Clay

QM will host a workshop teaching individuals and families to make clay models of Palestinian dresses. Inspired by the Labour of Love: Embroidering Palestinian History exhibition, participants of this workshop will learn to add Palestinian patterns and colours to their clay dresses.

When: Sunday, 8 January 2023 and Sunday, 22 January 2023

4- Children’s Exploration Journey

NMoQ is inviting children and their families to take an interactive tour of its galleries and family-orientated exhibits to mark the International Day of Education. Children will be encouraged to use their problem-solving skills throughout the sessions to increase their knowledge about Qatar’s culture, environment, and heritage.

When: Saturday, 21 January 2023 and Saturday, 28 January 2023. The English tours will run between 1 pm and 2:30 pm, and the Arabic ones between 4 pm and 5:30 pm.

5- Library Tour

MIA welcomes everyone to take a look at its book collection and learn about Islamic art through its daily tour.
