What can I do to stay healthy in the hot weather?

When the weather is hot, you’re more likely than any other time to become dehydrated or experience a heat-related rise in body temperature. This could lead to problems such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and headaches. Therefore, you need to do everything you can to stay safe and healthy. Here are some tips that can help you achieve this:

  • Make sure that any food that needs refrigeration is stored in a temperature between 0°C and 5°C.
  • Defrost food in the fridge, not on the kitchen counter.
  • Limit outdoor activities to the coolest part of the day and avoid going out midday when the temperature is at its peak.

  • Try to stay out of the sun. If you must go outside, apply sunscreen, wear sunglasses, and a hat, and take frequent breaks in the shade.
  • Never leave babies, children, older people, or animals alone in a closed, parked car, even if the air-conditioner is on.
  • Be alert to signs of heat-related illness and follow your doctor’s advice if you have any medical conditions. If you feel unwell, seek immediate medical attention.Sincerely,
